Jane’s mother loses her job and has to cancel Jane’s riding holiday. Not wanting to lose face with her friends, Jane runs away. Her friends Fran, Fran’s younger brother Nicholas, and Bigby finally find her in an abandoned old factory where she’s met Susan, a homeless bag lady. When Nicholas gets in trouble the others band together to save him and in the process discover how all of them, not just Jane, are trying to pretend to be something they’re not.
